4751 Thomas S. Gardner is buried in one of the unmarked graves in the Washington Confederate Cemetery within Rose Hill Cemetery. As noted in "A Descriptive List of the Burial Places of the Remains of Confederate Soldiers" he was initially buried in "Rev. J. J. Adams town lot, back of M. E. Graveyard" and was later moved to Washington Cemetery.

The Washington Confederate Cemetery map at http://www.whilbr.org/assets/uploads/Confederate%20Cemetery%20Hagerstown.pdf shows B. Gardner but this is obviously in error. The Louisiana men are all buried around him, and he was the only Gardner from Louisiana killed in that battle. You will see the notation to the left of another row to the left that states Louisianans. J. Garto and P. N. Duplesis, who were mess mates of Gardner, are in the same row as he is.

The Rev. Adams previously noted is actually Rev. John Alexander Adams who was the rector at St. Paul's Episcopal church in downtown Sharpsburg in 1866 according to http://archive.org/details/journalannualco29convgoog. Also, refer to the historic site survey at http://msa.maryland.gov/megafile/msa/stagsere/se1/se5/021000/021500/021555/pdf/msa_se5_21555.pdf for more information on Rev. John Alexander Adams.

St. Paul's Episcopal church in downtown Sharpsburg was used as a hospital by the Confederates. They did bury men outside of it, and they were later reinterred at Washington Cemetery.

Washington Confederate Cemetery is a separate cemetery located within the grounds of Rose Hill Cemetery. It was dedicated on June 15, 1877. Most of the graves are of Confederate soldiers who died in the nearby battles of Antietam and South Mountain. More than 2000 soldiers are buried here but only 346 were identified. Only three of the graves have any markers, but an old map of the cemetery is mounted on a plaque at the site.

4753 Thoughts on Eliza Charrier Gardner Goulette by Erin Perkins Antley
I have been researching this relative for over a year now and with the help of some of her other descendents I think we may have finally found her family line. I must say that it is not guaranteed to be right--this can be described as an educated guess with what little we could find about her. I believe her to be buried in the Oauchita City Cemetery. Her grave is said to be marked with a piece of petrified wood, but I have not located her actual grave. I think that possibly her first husband--Charles Gardner, who would be my great-great grandfather, is buried there also. For those who have never been to Ouachita City Cemetery, it is in the middle of the woods between Spencer, Louisiana and Sterlington, Louisiana. It is not terribly hard to locate and it is a fascinating piece of the history of this area. But there are many unmarked graves in this cemetery, their wooden markers and stones lost to time.

Among these substantial evidences of his professional ability that may be seen in New Orleans today may be mentioned the handsome structures of the Hotel Monteleone, the De Soto hotel, the Macheca building, the Werlein music house, the Lorrainne apartments, the Winter Garden (now conducted as the Hippodrome), the Union brewery, the New Orleans sanitarium (now the Presbyterian hospital), the Orleans Parish Medical Society building, and the beautiful Monteleone Memorial entrance to Citypark. Among the numerous palatial New Orleans residences that have been designed by Mr. Toledano should be noted those of Isidor Newman, W. T. Jay, Nicholas Burke, Henry P. Dart and Peter Fabacher. Mr. Toledano was also associate architect in designing the Pickwick club building and the magnificent new Grunewald hotel. 4781 Two deaths were recorded at New Orleans. The first was recorded on 1 September 1853 and notes “Leopold Jeanette, aged six months, issue of the legitimate marriage of Leopold Jeannet and Adele Dufilho, both native of this city, departed this life on the twenty-sixth instant (August 26th 1853) in a house situated on Chartres Street between St. Louis and Toulouse streets.” The second was recorded on 12 May 1854 and notes “Leopold Joseph Bruno Jeannet, a native of this city, aged about one year, issue of the legitimate marriage of Pierre Leopold Jeannet and Adele Dufilho, departed this life on the twenty-fifth of August eighteen hundred fifty-three (August 25th, 1853) in a house situated at the Bay St. Louis in the state of Mississippi.” At the time of this writing, no record of another child with a similar name was found. Therefore, it was assumed that the records refer to the same child but the facts regarding the exact time and location of the death were incorrectly reported since neither death was reported by a family member.
