    Obituary:
    Havard J. Burleigh, 76, well-known member of a prominent area family, died at 7:15 a.m. today in Prompt Succor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and was a native of Sunset and a long time resident of Opelousas. Survivors include his widow, the former Marie Dufilho three daughters, Mrs. B. C. (Gwendolyni Smith of San Antonio, Tex., Miss Elaine Burleigh of Houston, Tex and Mrs. S. J. (Shirley) Broussard of New Orleans; two brothers, Kenneth Burleigh of Sunset and Lt. Col. Albert Burleigh of Lafayette; four sisters, Mrs. E. J. Boudreaux, Mrs Earl Cummings, and Mrs. Oliver DeValcourt, all of Sunset, Mrs. George Dufilho of Opelousas, and seven grandchildren.
    Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m Saturday in Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Bury will be in Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum under the direction of Lafond and Son Funeral Home. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

    Funeral services for Mrs. Lynn Burleigh Dimmick Dufilho, 89, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Louisiana Memorial Methodist Church in Opelousas with burial in Bellevue Memorial Park. Mrs. Dufilho., a resident of Opelousas and a native of Sunset, died at 10:35 p.m. Monday in Doctors’ Hospital in Opelousas. She taught home economics at Sunset High School and was retired from the St. Landry Parish school system. Survivors include: a sister, Mrs. Earl (Belle) Cummings of Sunset. Visiting hours are from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. on Thursday until time of services. Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

    Gwendolyn Smith, age 84, passed away April 27, 2008. (Mother of Burleigh and Barney Smith). She was born April 17, 1924, in Opelousas, LA, to Havard and Marie Antoinette (Dufilho) Burleigh. She was preceded in death by her husband Colonel Bernard C. Smith, USAF, Retired. She is survived by her children, Barney Smith and his wife Kathy, B.J. Smith, and Lynn (Smith) Norton and her husband Larry; grandchildren, Andrew and Jennifer; sisters, Elaine Burleigh and Shirley Broussard; niece, Susie; nephews, Danny, Rusty, and Mike. Mrs. Smith will be interred with her husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Please make memorials in her name to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, South Texas Chapter, 931 Isom Rd., Suite 125, San Antonio, Tx 78216. Colonial Funeral Home.
