    Mrs. Moise Hollier and her 15 year old daughter Genevieve of Opelousas were injured Sunday night when the car which Mr. Hollier was driving was said to have been sideswiped by another car driven by Flourney Pershing of Lafayette. The accident occurred on the Opelousas-Port Barre highway as the Pershing car was being driven toward Opelousas and the Hollier were en route to Port Barre. Mrs. Hollier and her daughter received lacerations about the head but were removed to their home after being treated at the St. Landry clinic. Mr. Hollier and Mr. Pershing escaped injury and four other children of the Holliers in the car at the time, received only [end of article].

    Obituary:
    A well-known maintenance supervisor at Opelousas High School died Wednesday afternoon of an apparent heart attack while inspecting a leak in the roof. According to school board officials, Ophey Hollier, 60. Opelousas, died about 2 p.m. at the school and was pronounced dead shortly after 3 p.m. by Dr. W.G. Owen, acting for parish coroner Dr. A.E. Williams who was in surgery, firemen said. Hollier was reportedly on the roof alone at the time he suffered the apparent heart attack. A second worker who was on the roof with him had climbed down shortly before Hollier died. Fire District No. 3 units were dispatched to the school property at 1:54 p.m. Wednesday and brought Hollier down from the roof of the building. Funeral services for Hollier will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery under the direction of Ardoin s Funeral Home of Opelousas. A rosary will be said at the funeral home at 8 p.m. today. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Louisiana School Bus Operators Association. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Louise Marie Viviano in November, 1974. A native of Arnaudville, he was the son of the late Mentor and Oscar Lee Hollier. He had been maintenance supervisor at Opelousas High School for the past 11 years and was employed part-time by Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church. He is survived by one brother, Aristile Hollier, Lafayette, and one sister, Mrs. Moise (Tevese) Angelle, Scott.

    April 6, 1924 - February 10, 2014

    Opelousas- Mass of Christian Burial for Virginia Hollier Naquin will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at St. Landry Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulcher Mausoleum. Fr. James Brady will celebrate the Mass.
    Music selection will be by Debbie Richard and Phyllis Simar.
    Virginia was a resident of Port Barre. She passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014, at Opelousas General Health System at the age of 89. Virginia enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, taking care of her dog Missy. Virginia was a devoted catholic who prayed the Rosary continuously. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
    Survivors include son, Curtis Naquin and wife, Michelle of Port Barre, daughters, Betty Olivier and husband, Alex of Carencro, Lucille Lafleur and husband, Charles, of Port Barre, Grace Morgan and husband, John of Carencro, brother Corrace Hollier, and wife, Hazel of Opelousas, son-n-law, Guy Castille, of Opelousas, sister, Anora Lukosvicus of New Mexico, ten grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
    Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Naquin, her parents, Louis and Clemence Stelly Hollier, daughter, Linda Castille, great grandson, David Gabriel Ashy, 5 brothers, and 5 sisters.
    The family of Mrs. Virginia would like to send a special Thanks to her caregiver Ms. Rita Arnaud for all the love and care she provided.
    Visiting hours will be observed in the Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas on Wednesday, February 12, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Home will reopen on Thursday at 8:00 a.m. until time of service.

    Visitation was scheduled from 10 a.m. to funeral time today at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Mass was scheduled for 1 p.m. today at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.

    He was an oilfield pressure control specialist and the owner and president of Lou-Ann Wireline Service, Inc.

    and a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.

    A native of Lafayette, Mrs. Mary was surrounded by her loving family as she passed away peacefully Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11:50 PM. She was a very loving mother and devoted to her family. Mrs Salsman loved gardening, listening to music, and she also sang with the USL choir. She graduated from Spencer Medical College and volunteered at Lafayette General Medical Center. Mrs. Mary opened Lafayette Bridal and Costume Rental and successfully operated that business for over 20 years. She would also invent a U.S. patent to coincide with a product for her company. She will be remembered for her dedication, passion, and love for all who knew her.

    She is survived by her five daughters, Diann Salsman Guidry of Casper, Wyoming; Lynda Virginia Salsman of Lafayette; Jo Ann Salsman LeBlanc of St. Martinville; Cynthia Salsman of Hillsboro,Texas; Lana Leanere Borza of Muldrow, Oklahoma; and one son, William Everette Salsman of Bozeman, Montana, 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Leo Everette Salsman; her father Isadore Hollier; her mother Leah Bergeron; and a daughter Marilyn Salsman Bliss Duchamp.

    Funeral services will be held Friday, October 5, 2012 at a 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette for Inez Auster, age 94, the former Inez Hollier, who passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 2:20 p.m. at River Oaks Retirement Manor in Lafayette.
    Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette. The Rev. Thainese, associate pastor of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate at the services.

    Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus. The songs will be Hail Mary Gentle Woman, Isaiah 49, Here I Am Lord and On Eagle's Wings.

    Mrs. Auster was a native and lifelong resident of Lafayette. She was a parishioner of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette and was a member of the Ladies Altar Society. Mrs. Auster was a retired cafeteria cook for Lafayette Parish School Board at L.J. Alleman Elementary for over twenty years.

    Survivors include one brother, Aristille Hollier, Jr. of Opelousas; three sisters, Diana Auster and Mathilde Guidry, both of Lafayette and of Alice Guidroz and her husband, Murphy, of Port Barre; and a host of nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Luce Auster; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Aristille Hollier, Sr., mother the former, Celeste Brasseaux; one brother, Arista Hollier; and four deceased sisters, Agnes Stelly, Josephine Tauzin, Ester Graham and Leah Stelly.

    A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home.

    The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Friday.

    Pallbearers will be James Irwin, Ray Bourgeois, Wayne Guidry, Sr., Gilbert Wayne Guidry, Jr., Christopher Harris Guidry and Ronald Guidry.

    LAFAYETTE ~ Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Diana Hollier Auster, age 93, the former Diana Hollier, who passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 7:34 a.m. at her residence in Carencro.

    Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette.

    Mrs. Auster was a native of Lafayette and a resident of Carencro. She was employed with Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for twenty-seven years. Mrs. Auster was a parishioner of St. Genevieve Catholic Church for approximately fifty years and St. Peter Roman Catholic Church for the past four years, where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society.

    Survivors include one daughter, Nora Auster Bourgeois and her husband, Ray, of Carencro; one daughter-in-law, Frances Auster of Mire; one brother, Aristille Hollier, Jr. of Opelousas; two sisters, Mathilda Hollier Guidry of Lafayette and Alice Hollier Guidroz and her husband, Murphy, of Port Barre; four grandchildren, Pam Viator, Dawn Irwin, Paula Alleman and Joey Auster; seven great grandchildren, Jennifer, Olivia, Noelle, Tyler, Tori, Elliott and Keri; and one great-great grandchild, Evangaline.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Cles Auster; her parents, Aristille Hollier and the former Celeste Bourgeois, both natives of Lafayette; one son, Kerman Auster, Sr.; a grandson, Cody Michael Viator; one brother, Arista Hollier; and five sisters, Agnes Hollier Stelly, Josephine Hollier Tauzin, Ester Hollier Graham, Leah Stelly and Inez Hollier Auster.

    OPELOUSAS - Private graveside services were held for Aristile "A.J." Hollier, Jr. at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

    Mr. Hollier, age 85, a resident of Opelousas, La., died on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Senior Village Nursing Home.

    Aristile served his country proudly in the United States Army in the German Occupation. He retired as an electrician in the oilfield. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

    Survivors are his son, Daniel L. Hollier of Gulf Shores, AL; his daughter, Lynn Hollier Marks and husband, Lennie, of Opelousas, LA and his sisters, Alice Hollier Guidroz of Opelousas, LA and Mathilde Hollier Guidry of Lafayette, LA. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Angela Nezat, John L. Hollier, Elizabeth Streiferd and Damien L. Hollier and 2 great-grandchildren Brennan Nezat and Alexander Streiferd.

At age 86, she passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 27, at Courtyard Manor Assisted Living in Lafayette. Entombment in St. Peter Mausoleum. Concelebrants will be the Rev. Joseph H.     Anna Lou Angelle Stemmans was born on Jan. 5, 1921, in Lafayette, to the late Moise Angelle, Sr. and Elvige Hollier Angelle.

    On June 30, 1946, she married William "Yam" Joseph Stemmans. Lou was a woman of strong will and had an unfaltering belief and faith in God. She was highly supportive of her family and was no stranger to hard work. In her youth, she worked at the Heymann Pharmacy and later, with her husband, owned and operated a family grocery on University Avenue. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. Lou is also genuinely treasured for her many words of wisdom, affectionately labeled "Maw-Maw-isms," such as "We know the past, but not the future," and "After one time comes another."

    Lou is survived by her son, William Michael Stemmans and his wife, Peggy Ann Kendrick Stemmans, of Baton Rouge, and her daughter, Jacqueline Marie Stemmans Zaunbrecher and her husband, Robert Leo Zaunbrecher, of Kingwood, Texas; five grandchildren, Michelle Lee Stemmans Ruston and her husband, John Edgar Ruston, III, of Baton Rouge, Allison Marie Zaunbrecher Rader and her husband, Norris Perry Rader, III, of Lafayette, Kristopher William Zaunbrecher and his wife, Leslie Ann Harper Zaunbrecher, of Houston, Mark Aaron Stemmans and his wife, Amanda Ruth Perault Stemmans, of Weston, Fla., and Anna Maria Zaunbrecher of Lafayette; and six great-grandchildren, Madison Leigh Ruston, John Edgar Ruston, IV, Anna Claire Frances Rader, Caleb Aaron Stemmans, Jack William Zaunbrecher and Lillian Angelle Rader. Lou was the oldest of seven children. Her surviving siblings are her sisters, Lucille Angelle Villard, Lillian Angelle Trosclair and her husband, Johnny Trosclair, and Marie Louise "Molly" Angelle Domingue and her husband, Fred Domingue.

    In addition to her parents, Lou was preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph Stemmans; brothers, Rodney Angelle, Antoine "Tan" Angelle and Moise "Jun" Angelle, Jr.; two sisters-in-law, Therese Bernard Angelle and Jane Green Angelle Perkins; and brother-in-law, Leonard Villard. She was the last surviving member of her husband's siblings and their spouses and likewise, the last remaining aunt to all their children. Lou's parting words were, "I love you and please pray for me."

    Pallbearers will be Donald Stemmans, Louis Prejean, Ray Thibodeaux, Dean Domingue, Robert Villard, Dale Angelle, Tim Angelle and Wayne Angelle.

    The family would like to acknowledge the outstanding caregivers from Courtyard Manor Assisted Living, Amian Health Services and Hospice of Acadiana. To Theresa Paris, Henrietta Huntly, Linda Grisby, Ethel Rivers, Brenda James and Rita Prejean: "The exceptional care and loving attention you gave our Mom will be forever in our hearts.     Mom’s life filled with prayer for others and toils of life has yielded to her rewards in heaven.
    Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Melancon Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas for Genevieve Hollier Burleigh, age 84, the former Genevieve Hollier, who passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 8:00 a.m. at Prompt Succor Nursing Home in Opelousas.

    Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas. Msgr. Keith J. DeRouen, pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, will officiate at the services.

    Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus. The songs will be Amazing Grace, Just A Closer Walk With Thee, Hail Mary Gentle Woman, How Great Thou Art, and On Eagles Wings.

    Mrs. Burleigh was a native of Arnaudville and a resident of Opelousas most of her life. She was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Opelousas where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of the 3rd Order of Marinates of the Holy Cross, and belonged to several prayer groups.

    Survivors include two sons, Harold Craig Burleigh and his wife, Sherri, of Opelousas, and Thad James Burleigh and his wife, Heike, of Charleston, SC; three daughters, Ingrid Marie DeChicchis and her husband, Albert, of Athens, GA, Sharon Elaine Fontenot and her special friend, Tommy Hidalgo, of Opelousas, and Stephanie Ann Richard and her husband, Don, of Opelousas; one brother, Edwin Hollier and his wife, Rose, of Opelousas; one sister, Versie Lewis of Cleveland, OH; twelve grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Moise Hollier and the former Bernadette Artigue; her husband, Harold James Burleigh; two brothers, Wilbert Hollier, and Edward Hollier; and two sisters, Clarita Nolin, and Joyce Breaux.

    A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home by Msgr. DeRouen.

    The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

    A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Edwin Louis Hollier on Friday, August 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Reverend Gregory Simien will celebrate the Mass. Rite of Committal will follow at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

    Edwin Louis Hollier, 78, of Opelousas, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at his home in Opelousas, after a valiant fight with cancer. He was surrounded by his wife, his children, and all six of his grandchildren.

    Edwin was born in Opelousas to Moise and Bernadette (Artigue) Hollier on September 4, 1940. He attended Opelousas High School and graduated in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea as a tank driver patrolling the DMZ. After honorary discharge, he played semi-professional football in Ohio and worked as the Cajun snowplow driver. After returning home to Louisiana, he worked for United Parcel Service (UPS) for 30 years where he received many commendations including Driver of the Year in 1973. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports, watching game shows (and beating contestants), Little Debbie snacks, and spending time with his family. His passion later in life was as a volunteer with the St. Landry Parish Veteran’s Committee where he helped to plan and build the St. Landry Parish Veteran’s memorial. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

    Edwin is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rose (Dufilho); daughter Bernadette and husband Bruce Robison; son Mark and wife Rhonda (Venable); grandchildren Katherine Rose (Prescher) Knott and husband Jarred, Adrienne Isabel Prescher, Taylor Louis Robison and fiancée Monique Davide, Jasmine Lynn Robison and fiancé Chad Clause, Ian Christopher Hollier, and Evan Thomas Hollier; great-grandchildren Khlöe Ann Knott, Roemyn Grace Knott, Bennett Joseph Knott, Autumn Rose Angelle, Vincent Leroy Joseph Angelle, Braxton Louis Robison, Charlotte Jane Robison, and Claire Ann-Marie Clause.

    He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Wilbert and fraternal twin Edward Lee; sisters Genevieve Burleigh, Clarita Nolan, Joyce Breaux, and Versie Lewis.

    Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. A rosary will be prayed on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

    Pallbearers will be Craig Burleigh, Taylor Robison, Ian Hollier, Evan Hollier, Chad Clause, and Jarred Knott. Honorary pall bearer will be Donald Batton.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors or a charity of your choice in Edwin’s name.

The 256th is a modular Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Louisiana Army National Guard. It is headquartered in Lafayette, Louisiana. In November 1990, the 256th Infantry Brigade successfully mobilized in support of Operations Desert Shield/Storm.     Opelousas-A Mass of Christian Burial for Louis B. Viviano will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. in the St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Interment will follow in the St. Landry Cemetery.

    Louis Benedict Viviano was born In Opelousas, Louisiana on February 9, 1945. He attended school at the Academy of the Immaculate Conception, and he graduated from Opelousas High School in 1962.

    Louis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and a Juris Doctorate from the Louisiana State Law School.

    Louis had many different and varied jobs in his lifetime, including selling Great Books of the Western World and cookware, working for his uncle in his wireline business, cooking on an offshore rig (where he had to lie about his age), grinding crank shafts, and working as an accountant for firms in New Orleans and Opelousas.

    He began his legal practice in Opelousas in 1973, and in 1976 started a new career in the plasma production field, where he started his own company. He was also involved in other business concerns. Including purchasing the Abdalla’s department store in Opelousas in 1985, because he believed closing this business would have been detrimental to the city.

    Louis enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter, although later in his life he preferred just watching the deer from his stand rather than shooting them. He promoted conservation and participated in the deer management program on his land. Some of the happiest times of his life were spent with his family and friends at the camp, where he was known to be a great cook. He was also a huge LSU football fan and missed very few of the home games in the last 20 years.

    Louis became a private pilot in the 1980’s and flew out of the airport in Opelousas for many years. He loved flying, and it was a source of peace and calm for him, in an otherwise hectic life.

    Louis loved his family and friends, and he touched the lives of many people that he encountered along the way. He loved to talk and tell his stories, but he also loved to listen to other people tell theirs.

    Louis loved animals, and he took in an astonishing number of strays in his lifetime. If he didn’t take them in, he fed them. He could never pass up a hungry cat or dog, and often he carried a bag of pet food in his truck, just in case.

    Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Alzier Hollier Viviano and Louis Augustine Viviano, and by his brother, James Edward Viviano.

    He is survived by his wife, Christy Lawrence Viviano; three sons, Alan Scott Moore and his wife, Alicia, from Mandeville, Louisiana, Charles Gordon Moore and his wife, Julia, from Nashville, Tennessee, and David Louis Viviano and his wife, Kierstyn, from Birmingham, Alabama; and three granddaughters, Lindsey Moore, Christabel Moore, and Olivia Viviano, of whom he was very proud.

    He also leaves behind one uncle, Corrace Hollier, many cousins, countless friends, and special hunting buddies.

    Visitation will begin on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. On Friday morning November 15, 2019 visitation will resume at 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

    EUNICE - It is with great sadness that the family of Travis Hollier announces his passing on Saturday, December 31, 2011 in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side. He was 69. A Celebration of Life was celebrated at 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 03, 2012 at Ardoin's Funeral Home Chapel in Eunice. Entombment will follow in at the St. Paul Mausoleum with Father Nathan Comeaux officiating.

    Travis was a Drilling Consultant and a company man for Apachie. He loved the challenge of his job. He also liked fishing, camping, flower gardening, sports cars and antique cars as well as spending time with his family and playing golf. Travis was a loving father, brother, grandfather, and friend and will be missed by all who knew him including his two sons, Paul Hollier and Simone of Ventress and Todd Hollier of San Diego, CA; his daughter, Julie Hollier Fontenot and husband, Mitch of Eunice; a brother, John Danny Hollier of Lafayette and a Uncle, Jean Houston LeJeune of Eunice. He was blessed with five grandchildren, Kelly Hollier, Mehgan, Jada, Gabby and Alex Fontenot.

    He now rests in Heaven with his beloved wife, Gladys F. Hollier; parents, Horace and Emmarita LeJeune Hollier; and a aunt Laura LeJeune

    Ronald James Breaux
    August 11, 1953 - August 25, 2018

    SUNSET ~ Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Mr. Ronald James Breaux, age 65, who passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 at his residence in Carencro.

    Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. The Rev. Ryan Post, pastor of Assembly of God Northside, will officiate at the services.

    Mr. Breaux was a native and lifelong resident of Sunset. He was employed as a self-contracted long-haul truck driver.

    Survivors include two brothers, Carl Breaux and his wife, Jennifer, and Randy Breaux and his wife Rebecca, all of Sunset; three sisters, Rose Marie Mere and her husband, Robert, of Lafayette, Melinda Breaux of Scott, and Pam Arceneaux of Carencro; fifteen nieces and nephews, and his godson, Phil Breaux.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland Joseph Breaux and the former Mary Joyce Hollier; and one brother, Roland "Bubba" Howard Breaux.

    The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

    Pallbearers will be Carl Breaux, Phillip Breaux, Jeremey Breaux, Randy Breaux, Jordan Arceneaux, and Richard Mire. Honorary pallbearer will be Michael Cormier.
