    Pierre's brother, Mathieu, was rechristened as Sieur Mathieu de Saint-Martin. However, since Mathieu de Saint-Martin never married, his title descended upon the progeny of his older brother, Pierre Martin.

    Notes:

    Mathieu was the first child of French parentage born in Acadia. This circumstance earned for Mathieu, in 1680, an efeoffment of lands near Grand Pré and a noble particule which rechristened him Sieur Mathieu de Saint-Martin. According to all Acadian censuses, but contrary to the tradition heretofore prevailing, Mathieu de Saint-Martin never married. His title, therefore, descended upon the progeny of his older brother, Pierre Martin.

    Notes:

    Early in life Pierre Bauchet St. Martin shipped before the mast. He participated in the war of 1744 and witnessed the taking of the citadel at Louisbourg by the Yankees from Boston in June, 1745. In 1750 he was captain of his ship. What caused him to steer his course to Louisiana is not known, nor why it was that he resigned his commission after arriving here.

    In 1758, having become a prosperous farmer with an extensive plantation on the present site of Algiers, he took unto himself as wife, Charlotte Therese Gallot. After an active successful life, during which he begot five children, he died, a patriarch, in 1805.
