Irene Hollier Moise

Mrs. Moise was a lifelong resident of Opelousas. She graduated with honors from LSU in 1930 with a B.A. degree in mathematics and English education. She was a member of Mu Sigma Rho, LSU's only honorary scholastic fraternity at that time. At LSU, she was elected to the Co-ed Honor Council and the Co-ed Executive Council, and she helped collect nickels to purchase the first Mike the Tiger mascot. She was a Red Cross volunteer during WWII and an officer of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She organized a kindergarten in her home in Opelousas in 1947 which met for 18 years. Prior to opening the kindergarten, she taught math and English in Eunice and Port Barre for several years. She served as the 25th president of the Opelousas Women's Club. She was a life member of the Women's Society for Christian Service. She was the oldest living member of record of the Louisiana Memorial United Methodist Church, as well as its oldest living member.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Edward Anthony Moise; her parents, Frederick Frank Hollier and Effie Dimmick Hollier; one brother, Lt. Col. Frederick F. Hollier, Jr.; and an infant sister, Elizabeth.
She was survived by one son, Dr. Edward D. Moise and wife Martha; one daughter, Jane Ellen Williams and husband David; one sister, Nancy Ryder, all of Opelousas; 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and three nieces and nephews.
