DUFILHO—Lionel Leopold Dufilho, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather passed away on Monday, February 13, 2006 at the age of 88. He was born on December 14, 1917 in Bunkie, Louisiana to parents John McDonald Dufilho and Miriam Conway Dufilho and was raised in Shreveport and New Orleans where he lived the rest of his life. Leo was a US Army Veteran, proudly serving his country in the Pacific during World War II. Upon returning to New Orleans after the war, he went to work for the Whitney National Bank and was employed there until his retirement in 1987.
Leo is survived by his wife of 32 years, Isabelle Cook Dufilho; sister Estelle Holbrook of Metairie, LA; daughters Kathleen (David) Carter of DeKalb, IL and Elaine (Tory) Milazzo of Chattanooga, TN; sons William (Teri) Dufilho of Houston, TX, Edward (Arden) Dufilho of Arlington, TX, John (Janet) Dufilho of Houston, TX; 1 stepdaughter Gayle Jordan; sixteen grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John McDonald Dufilho, Jr. and Thomas C. Dufilho; and his first wife, Ellen Kelley Dufilho, to whom he was married 22 years. Everyone who knew him will remember Leo for his caring supportive spirit, his faith in God, love of family, keen sense of humor, and his boundless interest in reading and learning.
The Dufilho family is thankful and blessed by the love, support and prayers received from friends both near and far. Special thanks are also given to the staffs of East Jefferson General Hospital and Canon Hospice for their compassionate, respectful care.
A Funeral Mass will be held from the Metairie Chapel of Lamana-Panno-Fallo, 1717 Veterans Memorial Blvd., corner of Bonnabel Blvd. on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at a visitation to be held on Friday 17, 2006 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday, February 18, 2006 after 8:00 a.m. until funeral time.
