Asa Norton married Anna Hawley in 1794. The couple had four children: Philo (b. 1795), Mary (b. 1797), Harriet (b. 1799), and Charles (b. 1803). Around 1797 Asa moved his young family to Louisiana which was then under the control of Spain and then briefly France, only to be sold to the United States in 1804. Norton was a tanner and dealer in animal hides.

Notes:
Significance: This house was built shortly after 1811 by Asa Norton, a tanner and businessman. The house is typical of country houses built along the bayous at the time. It is constructed of native cypress and other hard woods with good craftsmanship. It has remained in the Norton-Gardener-Hinckley family since it was built.
