Marie Burleigh
Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Antoinette “Nettie” Dufilho Burleigh, 94, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on North Main Street in Opelousas. Burial will be in the Holy Sepulcher Mausoleum.
Mrs. Burleigh, a former resident of Opelousas, died at 7 p.m. Friday, June 6, 1997, in Autumn Winds Nursing Home in Schertz, Texas. She was a member of the Ladies Altar Society of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, the Opelousas Garden Club, the Home Extension Club, Woodman of the World, AARP and the Opelousas Art League.
Survivors include; three daughters, Gwendolyn Smith of Universal City, Texas, Elaine Burleigh of Houston, Texas, and Shirley Broussard of New Orleans; a brother, Gerald Dufilho of Opelousas; a sister, Ida Russ of Opelousas; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Burleigh was preceded in death by her husband, Havard Burleigh; her parents, John Marie and Anna Catherine Hinckley Dufilho; and six brothers, George, Louis, Johnny, Peyton, Eugene and Marion Dufilho.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday. Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on North Main Street in Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. and Mrs. Havard Burleigh Celebrate Golden Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Havard Burleigh, prominent Opelousas couple who were married 50 years ago today, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary yesterday at a reception at their home.
They were married in St. Landry Catholic Church by the late Father A.B. Colliard. Their marriage was blessed at the reception Sunday by Father Lloyd Hebert, pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church.
Mrs. Burleigh was Marie Dufilho of Opelousas when she was married to Mr. Burleigh, a native of Sunset. They are the parents of three daughters, Mrs. B. C. Smith of San Antonio, Tex., the former Gwen Burleigh, Elaine Burleigh of Houston Tex.; and Mrs. S. J. Broussard of New Orleans, the former Shirley Burleigh.
Mr. and Mrs. Broussard and their children, Danny, Rusty, Susan and Mike, were here for the reception. The couple’s other two daughters were unable to attend because of illness.
Decor Is Gold
The decorations at the Burleigh home for the anniversary reception were in gold. There was a large arrangement of gold gladioli in the living room. The serving table was centered with a bouquet of gold chrysanthemums flanked by gold tapers in crystal candelabra. Mrs. Horace Russ presided at the silver coffee service and also served sherry. Mrs. Johnny Dufilho presided at the crystal punch bowl.
The cake table held a three tiered anniversary cake, which was served by Mrs. Lee Delcambre. Gold tapers in gold candleholders were used on the cake table.
Susan Broussard and Jackie Delcambre registered guests.
Mrs. Burleigh recieved her guests in a full length print dress and wore a gold orchid corsage.

B. C. Smith Marries Gwendolyn Burleigh
Miss Gwendolyn Burleigh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvard Burleigh of Opelousas, and B. C. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair Smith of Baton Rouge, were married Monday afternoon at the St. Landry Catholic church In Opelousas with the Rev. Fr. A. B. Colliard officiating.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a smart wool suit with luggage tan accessories and a blue orchid corsage. Her attendant, Miss Mary Lee Hoover, wore a pink wool suit with a corsage of pink carnations. Mr. Alton Parker was best man.
Immediately after the ceremony a reception was held at the Burleigh home where the couple received with Mrs. Burleigh and Mrs. Smith. The former wore a gray wool frock with pink carnations, and Mrs. Smith was in figured jersey with which she wore a red carnation corsage.
