    FITZGIBBON
    Thelma H., died Dec. 12, 2005. She was born to Preston and Josephine (Robin) Hollier and raised in Opelousas, LA. She held the title of Miss Opelousas and was runner up in the Ms. Louisiana Pageant. She was employed with OSU as a housemother for a girls' sorority at OSU and later head resident of a girls' dormitory at Louisiana State Univ. where she later retired. She will be missed by her family and friends. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Fitzgibbon, Sr.; her parents; 2 sisters; 1 brother; and 1 grandchild. Thelma is survived by her 3 sons, David and wife Gaye, Dale and wife Marcia, Jim and wife Marsha; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

    Opelousas-Charles Preston Hollier,81,died at 11:20 p.m.Saturday at his home.

    He had been ill for four years.

    Hollier was a retied barber and operated a barber shop in Opelousas for 47 years.

    His body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home.Services will be held at 9 a.m.Monday at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.Burial will be in the St.Landry Catholic Cemetery.

    Charles Hollier was still single and working as a clerk in Opelousas when he enlisted in the 8th Louisiana Volunteers on June 23rd, 1861. He was detailed as a Guard for the Reserve Ordnance Train from July 1862 to 1863. Charles was captured at Rappahannock Station, VA on Nov. 7th, 1863, sent to Point Lookout, MD and exchanged on March 15th, 1864. Furloughed to Louisiana, Charles never returned to his command and was considered absent without leave since April 20th, 1864. However, many years later, in a Pension Application, Charles stated that he could not return to his command and that he and 6 to 7 other members of Co. F joined up with Capt. McCrory's command. They were sent to Shreveport and later joined with Gen. Harry T. Hays in Alexandria. They were then sent to Monroe, LA to build boats. Charles was paroled with the rest of the command in Natchitoches, LA on June 6th, 1865. That much shows in his official record. Hollier married Ephra Armond on Oct. 17th, 1868. He died in Opelousas on Oct. 7th, 1932 and is buried in the Old St. Landry Cemetery in Opelousas.
