Notes: Early in life Pierre Bauchet St. Martin shipped before the mast. He participated in the war of 1744 and witnessed the taking of the citadel at Louisbourg by the Yankees from Boston in June, 1745. In 1750 he was captain of his ship. What caused him to steer his course to Louisiana is not known, nor why it was that he resigned his commission after arriving here. Pierre married Charlotte Thérèse Gallot on 21 Oct 1758 in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Charlotte was born in 1735 in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana, USA; died in 1835. Notes: Pierre's brother, Mathieu, was rechristened as Sieur Mathieu de Saint-Martin. However, since Mathieu de Saint-Martin never married, his title descended upon the progeny of his older brother, Pierre Martin.

Notes: On the 4th of July, 1632, the Royal French frigate l'Esperance en Dieu, escorting two transports, set sail from d'Auray bound for Acadia. The Treaty of Saint-Germain en Laye had just been signed recognizing for the first time Acadia as a French possession, and the Sieur Isaac de Razilly, on instructions from Cardinal Richelieu, was proceeding with three hundred men, recruited from Touraine and Brittany, to take delivery of Port Royal from the English and to establish there a permanent colony.
