Lafayette - Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette.
Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Cemetery in Opelousas.
Reverend Susan Ferguson, Associate Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette will conduct the funeral services.
Robert Perry Walker, Jr. passed away at the age of 88 peacefully on Sunday, October 15, 2017 in Lafayette, LA. R.P., as he was affectionately known, was born October 19, 1928, in Opelousas, LA, the son of Elmira Devillier and Robert Perry Walker, Sr. He was also raised by his loving stepmother Elva McKinney. R.P. graduated from Opelousas High School at the age of 16 and SLI in 1947, at the age of 19, in Business Administration.
He served in the US National Guard from 1948-1955. He married the love of his life, Myrna Mae Bruchhaus, on September 27, 1959, recently celebrating their 58th anniversary. They lived in Opelousas, LA, Lafayette, LA, and Clearwater, FL,where he ran a variety of successful businesses and raised four children. He was an active member of the Rotary Club South, of Lafayette and Asbury United Methodist Church.
R.P. was a wonderful father, grandfather, friend, and role model to those who knew and loved him. He enjoyed grilling, fishing, telling stories, and throwing parties.
He is survived by his wife, Myrna Walker; his son Perry Walker and wife Chantel; his daughters Karen Runnels and husband John, Phyllis Cruse and husband Matt, Toni Miller and husband Rick; ten grandchildren, Drew Stokes, Erik Runnels, Chandler Miller, Emily Housni, Meleah Kimball, Cpl. Michael Walker, Zachary Walker, Mallory Walker, Connor Cruse, and Courtney Cruse; two brothers Herbert Walker and wife Sandra and Charlie McKinney.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Perry Walker, Sr., Elmira Devillier; stepmother Elva McKinney; and sister, Vera Ruth Gilmore.
His kindness will live in our hearts, his advice will guide our actions, and his stories will be told for generations.
Pallbearers will be Erik Runnels, Chandler Miller, Zachary Walker, Rick Miller, Wesley Walker, and Greg Brown.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Matt Cruse, John Runnels, and Drew Stokes.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's SOUTHSIDE location on Friday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of service.
Memorial contributions can be made in Mr. R.P. Walker, Jr.'s name to Asbury United Methodist Church, 101 Live Oak Drive, Lafayette, LA 70503.
A heartfelt appreciation is extended by the Walker family to Dr. Kemp Coreil and his loving caregivers Shelia Istre, Brenda James, and Delores Babineaux. They would also like to thank all the staff at The Blake of Lafayette, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, and The Carpenter House of Lafayette.
