G. W. Hawkins
Funeral services for GW Hawkins, 83, of Lake Jackson will be held Monday, November 16, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Keith Woolf officiating. Interment will follow in the Carrell Cemetery. Mr. Hawkins was born September 29, 1926 in the Shawnee Prairie Community, Angelina County, Texas to the late Alma Jane (Lackey) and Vilas Merion Hawkins, and died Friday, November 13, 2009 in Lake Jackson. Mr. Hawkins resided in Lufkin for more than 40 years before moving to Lake Jackson in 2006. He served in the U.S. Army, and worked alongside his wife, Muriel at East Texas International Havester as parts manager. Later on he was the parts manager for Barrett Mack. Mr. Hawkins was a member of Parkview Baptist Church. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, George Wesley and Jennifer Hawkins of Freeport; stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Rich Cutler of Willis, Connie and Bob Bricker of Holly Lake Ranch and Charlene Louise Hollier of Lufkin; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Howard Owens of Houston and Modene and David Sivley of Pasadena; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sonny and Trisha Stroud of Livingston; niece, Susan Lesman of Dallas; nephew, Steve Stroud of Livingston; and a number of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel Joyce (Stroud) Hawkins in 2006. Pallbearers will be Zane Hawkins, Steve Cutler, Terry Bricker, David Perkins, Thurman Teer and Larry ''Sonny'' Stroud. Memorial contributions may be made to the , 212 Gene Samford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
