Floyd "Gene" Courvelle
September 30, 1954 - March 27, 2021
SUNSET ~ Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Floyd "Gene" Courvelle, age 66, who passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021 in Vietnam.
Interment will be in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Grand Coteau.
Mr. Courvelle was a native and lifelong resident of Sunset. He fell in love with Vietnam and visited frequently. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved LSU. Gene never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand.
Survivors include three daughters, Nicole “Nikki” Courvelle of Scott, Christy Cressend and her husband, John, of Metairie, and Casey LeBlanc and her husband, Nathan, of Crowley; his stepmother, Florita Guillory Courvelle of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Cameron Kidder, Darrion Kidder, Garrett Kidder, Aleigha LeBlanc, Jude LeBlanc, Finley Cressend and John “Jax” Cressend, Jr.; three sisters, Peggy Courvelle Thibodeaux and her husband, Billy, of Sunset, Lydia Courvelle Menard and her husband, Eldridge, of Sunset, and Leslie Cathey of Lafayette; and one sister-in-law, Nelda Sistrunk and her husband, Jamie, of Meridian, MS.
He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Jean Courvelle; his mother, Bette Thibodeaux Billeaud; his paternal grandparents who helped raise him, Lena Cormier Courvelle, and Dupre Courvelle; one brother, Byron Courvelle; and his niece, Kimberly Cathey Buckles.
The family requests visiting hours be observed from 8:00 a.m. Saturday until service time on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in the name of Floyd “Gene” Courvelle be made to Foster the Love Louisiana.
