Elvin Hollier
(September 14, 1930 - December 7, 2014)
U.S. Veteran Graveside services will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Cemetery for Elvin Hollier, age 84, who passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 1:28 p.m. at Opelousas General Health System in Opelousas.
Interment will be in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Grand Coteau.
Mr. Hollier was a native of Mamou and a resident of Sunset for over fifty years. He was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Mr. Hollier was a veteran of the military having served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was assigned to task force 7 in the Marshall Island as part of the United States Atomic Energy Commission aboard the U.S.S. Frank Knox where he participated in Operation Ivy in Fall of 1952, and the U.S.S. Estes where he participated in Operation Castle in the Winter of 1954. He was entitled to wear the National Defense Service ribbon, Korean Service ribbon, United National Service ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include his beloved wife of sixty two years, Elnora Miller Hollier of Sunset; and three sons, Michael Hollier of Fredericksburg, VA, Jack C. Hollier of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Daniel Hollier and his wife, Pamela of Carencro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam Hollier and the former Adelide Lanclos both natives of Leonville; one son, Joseph Bryan Hollier; five brothers, Louis Burke Hollier, Allen Hollier, Thelisma "Tim" Hollier, Mayance Hollier and Joseph Hollier; and three sisters, Inez Thompson, Melda Fontenot and Armance Tate.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Melancon Funeral Home in Opelousas from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Hollier, Jack Hollier, Michael Hollier, Brandon Miller, Tony Miller, Joey Lambert.

SUNSET ~ Funeral services will be held Monday, December 14, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. in Melancon Funeral Home Chapel in Carencro for Elnora Miller Hollier, age 87, who passed away peacefully with her family at her side on December 10, 2020 at her residence in Sunset, Louisiana.
Interment will be in St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Cemetery. Deacon David Menard of St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church will officiate at the services.
Elnora was born on September 16, 1933 in Ville Platte, Louisiana to John Miller and Agnes Bordelon Miller. A resident of Sunset for 60 years, Elnora married her husband, Elvin, on April 25, 1952, in the small community of Prairie Ronde. Elnora lived a full and wonderful life as a mother and homemaker. She treasured her four sons and embraced every moment she spent with them. A farm girl at heart, she had many memories growing up in a large but close knit Cajun family. She was a remarkable cook and loved to prepare Cajun dishes for her family and friends, especially over the holidays. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in the family RV and quickly made friends wherever she went. Her sweet disposition and beautiful smile will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
Elnora is survived by her sons, Michael Hollier, of Fredericksburg, Virginia and his partner Joey Lambert, Jack Hollier of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Danny Hollier and his wife Pam of Scott, Louisiana, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Elvin Hollier; her son, Joseph Bryan Hollier; her parents, John and Agnes Bordelon Miller; her two sisters, Rosalie Miller Ray and Darnell Miller Ardoin; and her four brothers John “Jay” Miller, Jr., Vernon James “Sonny” Miller, Anthony Clyde Miller, and Robert “Bob” Miller.
A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Friends and others whose lives were touched by Elnora are invited to Melancon’s Funeral Home Chapel in CARENCRO on Monday, December 14 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Family members are invited to a private visitation starting at 8:00 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Danny Hollier, Jack Hollier, Michael Hollier, Joey Lambert, Tony Miller, and Jason Miller. Honorary pallbearer is Zach Miller.
The Hollier family would like to extend their gratitude to St. Joseph’s Hospice in Lafayette, La. and to her loyal at-home caregivers Judy Calais, Bea Gardner, Cindy Guillot, Beverly Kidder, Tamekia Lazarde, Glenda Lewis, Janice Mouret, Cathleen Olivier, Necey Rideaux, Tranesa Rose, and Surrie Williams for their loving care and compassion.

NEW IBERIA — At approximately I2:30 a.m. Sunday, a two-car collision at the intersection of US Hwy. 90 and LA 675 resulted in the death of two Sunset residents. According to Troop I investigating officer Merline Landry, a car driven by randy Joseph Porche, 26, of New Iberia was northbound on LA 675 when he allegedly failed to heed a stop sign and broadsided the car driven by Angela Nugent.
Angela Nugent, 19, and Joseph Hollier, 21, a passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene and their bodies were taken to the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas. It was reported that Porche was arrested and charged with failure to stop and for driving under revocation of license.
Funeral services for Miss Nugent will be held today at 4 p.m. in St. Charles Catholic Church in Grand Coteau with burial in Bellevue Memorial Park directed by Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on North Main St. Survivors include her parents, Merlin P. Nugent and Mrs. Barbara Hebert Nugent, of Sunset, three brothers, Aaron Nugent, Terry Nugent and Audie Nugent, all of Sunset; one sister, Mrs. Donald (Shelly) Wilson of New Iberia; her maternal grandparents. Pearl Baudin and Claude Hebert, of Lafayette.
Funeral services for Hollier will also be held at 4 p.m. today in St. Charles Catholic Church in Grand Coteau with burial in the church mausoleum directed by Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on North Main St.
Survivors include his parents, Elvin Hollier and the former Elnora Miller, both of Sunset; three brothers, Mike Hollier of Lafayette and Jack Hollier and Danni Hollier both of Sunset.
