Sister Mary Luke Leleux, MHS
LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at a 1:00 PM Mass of Resurrection in the Chapel of Bethany MHS Health Care Center in Lafayette, LA for Sister Mary Luke Leleux, MHS the former Marie Louella Leleux, who died on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Bethany MHS Health Care Center at the age of 84. Reverend Thomas Finley, Chaplain of Bethany MHS Health Care Center in Lafayette will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Sister Luke was the daughter of the late Romuald Leleux and Alix Hollier Leleux and was born on July 27, 1930 in Vermilion Parish, LA. She attended Lyons Point Elementary School in Lyons Point, LA and Crowley High School and St. Michael's High School in Crowley, LA. She received a BS in Math and Science from USL (presently ULL) in Lafayette, LA.
Entering the Sisters of the Most Holy Sacrament in 1947, she professed her Perpetual Vows in 1952. At the time of her death she was in her 67th years of Religious life. Sister Luke spent 22 years in Education Ministry as a primary, middle and high school teacher. Her ministry brought her to schools in Louisiana including St. Bernard in Breaux Bridge; St. Maurice and Annunciation High School in New Orleans; St. Joseph in Gretna; and St. Michael in Crowley; in Mississippi at Our Lady of Victories Elementary School in Pascagoula, MS. Upon retiring from the classroom Sister Luke spent the remainder of her Religious Life In Ministry to the MHS sisters as a laundress, nurse's aide, sitter and Sacristan at Bethany Health Care Center. She visited and brought Holy Communion to the ill and infirm and shared her great love of God with them.
Sister Luke had a quiet presence and went about doing God's work in a simple and prayerful manner. She will be remembered for her holiness, gentleness and her great love of Jesus in the
in the Most Holy Sacrament.
She is survived by five nieces, twelve nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews and her religious family, the Sisters of the Most Holy Sacrament. She was preceded in death by her parents Romauld and Alix Hollier Leleux; two brothers Emerson and Murphy Leleux; two sisters Rosa Belle Meaux and Elvie Dubois.
Visitation for Sister Luke will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 9:00 AM until Mass time at the Chapel of Bethany MHS Health Care Center, with a Rosary Service at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette.
The MHS Sisters wish to thank the Staff at Bethany and the many friends of Sister Luke especially Mina Thibeaux and Edward Fremin whose frequent visits meant so much to her.
