Alvin M. Dufilho was born on Dec. 21, 1911, in Opelousas, and entered into heaven on Sept. 13, 2003, in Baton Rouge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Chachere Dufilho; parents, Roger M. Dufilho and Clara Hollier Dufilho; and a sister, Elise Hazelwood.
Survivors include a son, A. Michael Dufilho Jr. and wife, Carol; daughters, Mary Kathleen Schwartzenburg and husband Donald, and Michele Frances Zaunbrecher and husband Frederick; grandchildren, Robin, Kristin and Todd Dufilho, Donna Schwartzenburg Breaux and husband Greg, Andrew Schwartzenburg and wife Penn, and Miles, Clark and Graham Zaunbrecher; stepgrandsons, Andrew and Hamilton Ridenour; and five great-grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Opelousas High School and received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from LSU. He served his country in the U.S. armed forces, having served in the European Theater during World War II. He was a longtime employee of the U.S. Soil Conservation Service, from which he retired in 1972. He was a lifelong member of St. Landry Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus, Woodmen of the World and the Elk's Club.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Visitation at Sibille Funeral Home, Opelousas, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and in the chapel from 8 a.m. until funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Interment in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Kathleen Dufilho Schwartzenburg
Opelousas Funeral services for Mrs. Kathleen Dufilho Schwartzenburg, age 66, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009, in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park.
Rev. Pam Roy will officiate the service.
Mrs. Schwartzenburg was a native and long-time resident of Opelousas. She died on Monday, January 5, 2009, in her residence. She graduated from USL in Lafayette and received her masters degree in education. She was a public school teacher for over 20 years. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, LA Retired Teachers Association, General Federation of Womens Club, Opelousas Garden Club Opelousas Art Museum and the LA Memorial United Methodist Church. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by one son, Andrew Andy Schwartzenburg and wife, Pen Immel Schwartzenburg of Lafayette; one daughter, Mrs. Donna Lynn Breaux and husband, Greg of Kenner; one brother, Michael Dufilho and wife, Dr. Carole of Baton Rouge; one sister, Mrs. Michell Zaunbrecher and husband, Dr. Fritz of League City, TX; and four grandchildren: Kacy Breaux of Kenner; Connor, Carter, and Rachel Schwartzenburg, all of Lafayette.
Mrs. Schwartzenburg was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Schwartzenburg; her parents: Alvin and Mary Lou Chachere Dufilho; and one grandchild, Kayla Breaux.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the La. Memorial United Methodist Church for Mrs. Alvin Dufilho, 58. the former Mary Lou Chachere, who died at 4 a.m. Tuesday.
Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Cemetery with Rev. T. M Lancaster, pastor of the church, officiating.
The body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home in Opelousas, and the funeral home will close at 10 p.m. Tuesday and open at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Mrs. Dufilho is survived by her husband; one son. Michael Dufilho of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Mrs. Donald Schwartzenburg of Opelousas and Mrs. Federick Zaunbrecher of Lafayette; and three grandchildren.
She was the daughter of the late Charles B. Chachere and Anna Hayes Born in Opelousas on Sept. 19. 1916. Mrs. Dufilho was a graduate of Opelousas High School and Southwestern Louisiana Institute (USL at Lafayette She taught in the St. Landry Parish public schools for 30 years, during which time she was named “Teacher of the Year.” She retired in 1971.
A member of the La Memorial United Methodist Church for 51 years, she served as a member of the administrative board of the church and taught Sunday School since age 16. Mrs. Dufilho was a member of the Allyne Dowling Circle of the United Methodist Women and presented bible study programs at a large number of Circle meetings.
In May of 1974 she was named “Mother of the Year” by the Opelousas Civic

Circle. She has been a member of the Opelousas Garden Club for 26 years and served as chairmen of the debutante committee.
Mrs. Dufilho was a charter member and past president of the Woman’s Service League of Opelousas and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as Regent in 1974–75. The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association of Louisiana.

Dufilho-Chachere Nuptials
The wedding of Miss Mary Lou Chachere daughter of Mrs. C. B. Chachere, and the late Charles Chachere, to Mr. Alvin Dufilho. son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Dufilho. was quietly celebrated Saturday afternoon at the Presbytere of the St. Landry Catholic church with Father A. B. Colliard hearing the vows.
Only the parents of bride and groom and Miss Myra Dunbar, close friend of the young couple were present.
Miss Chachere was lovely in a saddle tan ensemble with beige accessories and a corsage of gladioli Mr. and Mrs. Dufilho left immediately after the ceremony for a short wedding trip and upon their return later in the week will take possession of their apartment in Parkview.

Funeral services for Mr. Donald Louis Schwartzenburg, 62, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, in Sibille Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas with burial in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Angelo Cremaldi will conduct the services.
Mr. Schwartzenburg, a native and resident of Opelousas, died at approximately 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, in M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. He graduated from Menard High School in Alexandria and attended USL, now the University of Louisiana. Mr. Schwartzenburg was a long-time salesman for Vermillion Wholesale Drug Company and later became co-owner of the company that was started by his father and two uncles. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Schwartzenburg enjoyed the outdoors with friends and family. He enjoyed cooking whenever possible and truly loved to be with his wife, children and grandchildren. His family meant everything to him, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Dufilho Schwartzenburg, of Opelousas; his mother, Mary Ethel Guilbeau Schwartzenburg, of Opelousas; one daughter, Mrs. Donna Lynn Breaux and her husband, Greg, of Kenner; one son, Andrew L. Schwartzenburg, and his wife, Pen, of Lafayette; five sisters, Mrs. Becky Tucker and her husband, Danny, Mrs. Jennie Ledoux and her husband, Leonard, and Mrs. Patsy Bullara and her husband, Jimmy, all of Opelousas; Mrs. Connie Benoit and her husband, Curt, of Washington, and Mrs. Peggy Bambrick and her husband, Bill, of Austin, Texas; one brother, Carl Schwartzenburg and his wife, Patricia, of Opelousas; and five grandchildren, Kayla and Kacey Breaux, and Connor, Carter and Rachel Carolyne Schwartzenburg. Mr. Schwartzenburg was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Schwartzenburg.
Pallbearers will be Andy Schwartzenburg, Carl Schwartzenburg, Benny Nele, Jan Ledoux, Shane Tucker, Corey Schwartzenburg and Bobby Savoy. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Dufilho, Danny Tucker, Leonard Ledoux, Curt Benoit, Jimmy Bullara, Bill Bambrick and Dr. Frederick Zaunbrecher.
Visiting hours will be observed from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Saturday until time of the services. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today.
