Elvin Hollier
(September 14, 1930 - December 7, 2014)
U.S. Veteran Graveside services will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Cemetery for Elvin Hollier, age 84, who passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 1:28 p.m. at Opelousas General Health System in Opelousas.
Interment will be in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Grand Coteau.
Mr. Hollier was a native of Mamou and a resident of Sunset for over fifty years. He was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Mr. Hollier was a veteran of the military having served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was assigned to task force 7 in the Marshall Island as part of the United States Atomic Energy Commission aboard the U.S.S. Frank Knox where he participated in Operation Ivy in Fall of 1952, and the U.S.S. Estes where he participated in Operation Castle in the Winter of 1954. He was entitled to wear the National Defense Service ribbon, Korean Service ribbon, United National Service ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include his beloved wife of sixty two years, Elnora Miller Hollier of Sunset; and three sons, Michael Hollier of Fredericksburg, VA, Jack C. Hollier of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Daniel Hollier and his wife, Pamela of Carencro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam Hollier and the former Adelide Lanclos both natives of Leonville; one son, Joseph Bryan Hollier; five brothers, Louis Burke Hollier, Allen Hollier, Thelisma "Tim" Hollier, Mayance Hollier and Joseph Hollier; and three sisters, Inez Thompson, Melda Fontenot and Armance Tate.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Melancon Funeral Home in Opelousas from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Hollier, Jack Hollier, Michael Hollier, Brandon Miller, Tony Miller, Joey Lambert.
Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas, 4708 I-49 North Service Road, (337) 407-1907, is in charge of arrangements.
