Funeral services for Ernest Thurston "Ernie" McKinney will be held on Monday, August 6th, 2007 at St. Landry Catholic Church at 2:30PM. The intombment will be in St. Landry Church Mausoleum. Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Schexnayder, concelebrants will be Msgr. Robert Romero and Fr. Gene Tremie.
Ernie, age 71, born August 18th, 1935, a resident of Opelousas, died Friday, August 3rd, 2007 at 3:10PM at Lafayette General Hospital. He was a graduate of Opelousas High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in commercial art from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (University of Louisiana at Lafayette.)
He worked as a petroleum draftsman in Lafayette for 15 years. He designed the first T.H. Harris Petroleum Drafting Technology Curriculum, which he taught until his retirement, on June 30th, 1998.
Ernie loved hunting and fishing, old cowboy movies, cooking, his computer and geneology. His real love was music and he sang in St. Landry Catholic Church choir for over 50 years. He sang for weddings and funerals for over 43 years and belonged to Acadiana Chapter Barber Shop Chorus in Lafayette, the Cajun Comedy Barber Shop Quartet called "Pride of the Marsh" and Barber Shop Quartet called "4 the Moment". He sang with Congres du Mondial Acadien Choir and was also a member of the Opelousas Community Choir. He was a charter member of the Brigadier General Mouton Camp 778 Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Ernie was also a member of the St. Landry Geneological Society, was a member of St. Landry Parish Retired Teachers Association, and served on many committies and was very active at St. Landry Catholic Church. and was an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 165 Boy Scouts of America.
Ernie will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife; Lilly Ann Hollier McKinney of Opelousas, his sons; Michael Ernest McKinney of Washington and David Lawrence McKinney and his wife Cathy Littell McKinney of Lafayette, daughter-in-law; Angie Duplechain McKinney Blanchard and her husband Clyde, sister; Merilynn McKinney Quirk, grandchildren; Phillip Michael McKinney and his wife Brandi Darbonne McKinney, Matthew Lawrence McKinney, Patrick Steven McKinney, Carson Blanchard and Mary Ellen Blanchard, nieces; Judy Quirk, Liz Puckett and her husband Page Puckett, Mary Quirk Steinberg and her husband Bill Steinberg, Charlotte Quirk Courvelle and her husband Lambert Courvelle, Christine Martin Ford, Brenda Hollier Boustany and her husband James Boustany and Cathy Quirk Bordelon.
Ernie was preceded in death by; his parents; Ernest and Ena Fontenot McKinney, a son; Steven Douglas McKinney, a sister; Bertha "Sis" McKinney Martin, a niece; Marise Martin, brother-in-laws; Atwood Quirk and L.A. "Mickey" Hollier, father-in-law and mother-in-law; Lawrence A. Hollier Sr. and Lilly Guidroz Hollier
The family has requested that visitation will be observed on Sunday, August 5th at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home on the Old Sunset highway from 3:00pm to 9:00pm and will continue on Monday from 8:00am until time of service. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm on Sunday.

Lilly Ann Hollier McKinney
September 24, 1934 - February 15, 2016
Opelousas - Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 19, 2016 at a Mass of Christian burial at St. Landry Catholic Church for Lilly Ann Hollier McKinney, 81 who died at 10:07 p.m. Monday February 15, 2016 at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans.
Intombment will be in the St. Landry Catholic Church Mausoleum.
The Rev. James Brady will celebrate the Funeral Mass. Music will be provided by members of the St. Landry Catholic Church Choir and Opelousas Community Choir.
Lilly was a lifelong member of St. Landry Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Landry Catholic Church Ladies Altar Society and St. Landry Catholic Church Choir. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, St. Landry Preservationist Society, St. Landry Genealogical Society, and Opelousas Community Choir. Lilly was a former member of Les Dames d' Etude.
Lilly was Valedictorian of Opelousas High School Class of 1952 and went on to graduate with honors from SLI (UL) in 1956 with BS degrees in Mathematics and Science. She gave 34 Years of service to the St. Landry Parish School system, teaching History, Science, Math, and Algebra at Opelousas High School and Opelousas Junior High School.
Lilly married the love of her life, Ernest Thurston McKinney on December 30, 1957. Together, they enjoyed 49 wonderful years together until his passing. They are reunited once again.
Surviving Lilly are her two sons: Michael Ernest McKinney & fiancee Lynn Mistric Diesi and David Lawrence McKinney & wife Cathy Littell McKinney; Grandsons Phillip Michael McKinney & wife Kendra Boudreaux McKinney; Matthew Lawrence McKinney & fiancee Morgan Beaugh and Patrick Steven McKinney. Lilly had three Great Grandchildren who were the lights of her life. They are Carsen Phillip McKinney, Caleb Matthew McKinney, and Bree Michelle McKinney. Lilly is also survived by daughter- in- law Angie Duplechain McKinney Blanchard and husband Clyde and their children Carson & Mary. Her surviving nieces are Brenda Hollier Boustany & husband James; Judy Quirk; Mary Quirk Steinberg & husband Bill; Charlotte Quirk Courvelle & husband Lambert; Cathy Quirk; and Christine Martin Ford and a host of great nieces and great nephews. She is also survived by her best friend of eighty one years, Julie Halphen Torian.
The family wishes to acknowledge with gratitude the love and support of her care givers Ann and Charlene.
Lilly was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Thurston McKinney; son Steven Douglas McKinney; parents Professor Lawrence Albert Hollier, Sr. & Lilly Guidroz Hollier ; brother L. A. ''Mickey'' Hollier & wife Joyce Ridgway Hollier; father-in-law and mother- in- law Ernest Alba McKinney & Ena Fontenot McKinney; sister-in-law Merilynn McKinney Quirk & husband Joseph Atwood Quirk; sister- in-law Bertha ''Sis'' McKinney Martin; and nieces Elizabeth Martin Puckett & husband Page; and Marise Ann Martin.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Phillip, Matthew, & Patrick McKinney; James Boustany; Mike Torian; and Kent Sibille. Honorary Pallbearers will be Great Grandsons Carsen and Caleb McKinney.
Memorial contributions in Lilly Ann McKinney's name may be made to Lourdes Foundation in Lafayette, LA, Ochsner Foundation or the St. Jude's Childrens Hospital.
Visiting hours are to be observed from 4 pm to 9 pm on Thursday February 18; and from 9:30 am until time of service on Friday February 19. A rosary will be recited by Father Austin Leger at 6:30 pm on Thursday evening.
