Life Legacy
Ethel Marie Fontenot Leger, 82, was called home on Tuesday, December 21, 2010. Mrs. Leger was born on November 7, 1928 in Eunice, Louisiana. Ethel was the loving wife of Gurfy Leger for 62 years. She lived in Lake Charles since 1946.
Ethel enjoyed many things in her life, especially cooking and gardening. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
Those left to honor and cherish her memories are her son, Kenneth (Marcell) Leger; daughters, Sharon (Wayne) Hearn, Vicki Welch, and Veronica Leger; long time family members Jim Welch, Shannon Stutes, Jimmy Trahan and John Louviere; her brothers: Joe Fontenot of Dallas, Texas and Jessie Fontenot of Neptune, New Jersey; eight grandchildren: Kenny and Scott Leger, Christy and B.J. Hearn, Brooke Welch Devillier and Blake Welch, Kayla and Jamie Louviere; and ten great grandchildren: Keighley and Kilby Leger, Terence West, Mason Hearn, Braden Welch, Vadah, Tristen and Brock Bellard, Alexis and Keith Jack; and a host of in-laws, extended family members, relatives, friends, and their faithful companion, Gigi.
Ethel was preceded in death by her father, Orius Fontenot, mother, Noeala Hollier, her son Gurfy "Junior" Leger, and brother Wilbert Fontenot.
Her funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 27, 2010 at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Father Keith Pellerin will officiate. Burial will follow at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home on Sunday, December 26, 2010 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a scripture service and rosary at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Monday from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calcasieu Association of Retarded Citizens (CARC) at www.thecarc.com in memory of Gurfy "Junior" Leger.
