Funeral services for Julius Paul Lambert, 83, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel on the Old Sunset Road in Opelousas with burial in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas. The Rev. Robert Courville will conduct the services.
Mr. Lambert died Thursday at 12:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette. He was born in the Plaisance section of St. Landry Parish to William Paul Lambert and Noelie Luminais Lambert. He spent most of his life in Opelousas
were he graduated from Opelousas High School, attended SLI in Lafayette, completed a course in Surveying in the U.S. Army, graduated from Sullivan School of Navigation in New Orleans and sailed with Army Transport Service during World War II. He owned and operated Lambert Auto Sales after which he was a salesman at Diesi-Pontiac and Daly Motors.
During the administration of Gov. John J. McKeithen he was appointed by the Gov. McKeithen to serve on the Board of Alcoholic and Beverage Control. He also is a retired member of the La. Horsemen's Association, having been an owner, breeder and trainer of thoroughbred horses. He is a life member of BPO Elks Lodge 1048 of Opelousas.
His survivors are his wife of 53 1/2 years, the former Rita Martin Lambert of Bristol. His children are Juliette Lambert Lastrapes and her children, Chad Lastrapes and Dawn Trahan of Lafayette; William Paul Lambert and wife Karen and daughter, Lauren of Baton Rouge; Albert Joseph Lambert and Robin and Albert Joseph Lambert Jr. of Opelousas; Theresa Lambert of Lafayette and children, Amy, William, Travis and David; Mary Lambert Schneider and daughter Tiffany of Opelousas.
Martin Anthony Lambert and wife Roni and children Josh, Jacob, Kandi and Adam of Opelousas; Fern Lambert Carr and husband Brian and children Brian and Sarah of Metairie.
Phyllis Lambert Hymel and husband Gerald Hymel Jr. and children Kyle and Ross of Metairie. Also he leaves five great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be observed from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 10:30 a.m. Friday until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on the Old Sunset Road in Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

Rita Martin Lambert
January 25, 1923 - March 29, 2018
Church Point ~ Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Landry Catholic Church for Rita Lambert, age 95, the former Rita Martin, who passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Opelousas General Health System in Opelousas.
Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas. The Rev. James Brady, pastor of St. Landry Catholic Church, will officiate.
The songs will be Here I Am Lord, Be Not Afraid, Amazing Grace, On Eagle’s Wings and Eye Has Not Seen.
Mrs. Lambert was a native of Church Point and a resident of Opelousas. She was previously employed with St. Landry Bank, from 1944 to 1946, Abdallas Department Store from 1963 to 1985, and Vermillion Wholesale, from 1985 to 2000, until her retirement. Mrs. Lambert was a parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church and was a volunteer for the United Way.
Survivors include three sons, William Lambert and his wife, Karen, of Denham Springs, Albert Lambert and his wife, Robin, and Martin Lambert and his wife, Roni, all of Opelousas; five daughters, Juliette Lastrapes of Cecilia, Theresa Lambert of Lafayette, Mary Richard and her husband, Randy, of Port Barre, Fern Carr and her husband, Brian, and Phyllis Hymel and her husband, Gerald, all of Metairie; nineteen grandchildren, Chad Lastrapes, Dawn Lastrapes Trahan, Jacob Kaiser, Tiffany Schneider Smoak, Charles Blanchard, Lauren Lambert, Amy Lambert, Albert Lambert, Jr., David Lambert, Billy Lock, Travis Lock, Candie Savage, Mary Catherine Carr, Brian Carr, II, Sarah Carr, Ross Hymel, Kyle Hymel, Josh Artigue and Adam Stoute; ten great grandchildren; and five great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Julius Paul Lambert; her parents, Joseph Camille Martin and the former, Ada Daigle; three brothers, Weston J. Martin, Emery Martin and an infant brother; and three sisters, Gussie Burson Miller, Ivy Mae Bernard and Irene Martin.
A rosary will be prayed at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8:30 a.m. Tuesday until service time on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be David Lambert, Ross Hymel, Chad Lastrapes, Brian Carr, Albert Lambert, Jr. and Broc Trahan. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Lock, Travis Lock, Lauren Lambert, Kyle Hymel, Amy Lambert, Mary Catherine Carr, Dawn Trahan and Tiffany Smoak.
