Lafayette Man’s Death Is Probed
LAFAYETTE— Investigation of the death of J. Wesley Hollier, who died of arsenic poisoning, is still being probed, Police Chief Paul Witovski said yesterday. Capt. Howard J. Benoit is continuing to follow it up, the chief said, but so far there have been "no new developments.” The investigation into Hollier’s death is being jointly conducted with the Lafayette Parish sheriff’s office. Deputy E. R. Allison is conducting the investigation for the sheriff's office. Hollier disappeared from his home last Dec. 11. He was reportedly going fishing, but failed to return at the end of the day. His body was found floating in the Vermilion Bayou Dec. 16. Following an inquest of some four days, Dr. E. M. Boustany, coroner, stated the amount of arsenic found in the 39-year-old carpenter’s body represented a "definitely lethal dose,” and was responsible for Hollier’s death. The five-man coroner’s jury ruled that Hollier died of "arsenic poisoning feloniously administrated.” The jury ruled that he died somewhere in the parish of Lafayette, sometime between the day he disappeared and the day his body was found. No charges have been filed in the case.
