    1205. William Franklin Goldthwaite (William7, Timothy6, Jacob5, Benjamin4, John3, Samuel2, Thomas1), of New Orleans, La., born in Augusta, Me., March 24, 1820, married, Apr. 13, 1846, Felicie Lartigue of New Orleans, a lady of French descent, born Apr. 13, 1828, daughter of Eugene and Sophie (Dufilho) Lartigue. He graduated with honor at Waterville College, Me., when nineteen years of age, and was for a number of years instructor in colleges and schools in the South, being teacher of Literature in the Eufala (Ala.) College in 1841, and afterwards in the Loundesboro and Montgomery academies. In 1843-44 he was Professor of English, Greek, and Latin in Bellanger’s Academy in New Orleans, and in 1844-46 in Jefferson College, St. James’ Parish. Later, he was for some years a shipping merchant in New Orleans, and finally established a bookstore there, on Canal street, continuing in that business the remainder of his life. He was an alderman of the city at one time. At the time of his death, Feb. 3, 1893, he had been a resident of New Orleans for fifty years.

    Obituary:
    Mr. Wm. F. Goldthwaite, one of the oldest-it not the oldest-booksellers of this city, died last night at his residence, No. 226 [sic - likely misprint] Bayou road, from old age having nearly attained four score years.
    Mr. Goldthwaite was horn at West Gardiner, Maine, and in 1844 hold the professorship of Latin and Greek in Jefferson College, St. James parish. In 1846 he became a shipping agent, for the United States government in this city, and in 1850 embarked in the bookselling business, which he pursued with considerable success up to the time of his demise.
    Mr. Goldthwaite leaves a wife, two daughters, and one son to mourn his loss.
