  1. 1.  Eugene Laperouse was born about 1818 in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

    Notes:

Son of Eugene & Eleanor (Henry) LaPerouse.

I have not yet searched church records for his birth/baptism in New Orleans, but we know of him as he appears in Southwest Louisiana Records by Donald Hebert. I am going to try to get a copy at St. Landry Courthouse a copy of a June 1825 Succession/Probate record #360 for the succession of Eugene's great-grandmother Anne Henry.

In the Southwest Louisiana Records there in an entry that reads under "LAPEREUSE. - m. Eleonore HENRY - Children: Severin: Edmond, Eugene. Grandparents: Jacques & Anne BELAMY both of France. Inherited 6,393 francs or $1,200.00. Succ. dated June 1825 (Opel. Ct.Hse.: Succ #360).

Please note that Jacques and Anne are Eleonore's grandparents and that this entry only lists the three living sons ages 13-9 of Eleonore Henry and Jean Baptiste Laperouse, although their daughter Marie Estelle is still living (she dies in 1827).

The children of Eleonore's first marriage to Manuel Celestin Saucier (Louis and Celeste) had already passed away in New Orleans. This succession also places the family in the area of Opelousas in 1825, most likely Belle-Vue La Prairie where Eleonore's sister Louise and her husband Celestin Lavergne are living.

Jaques and Anne are the parents of Eleonore Henry's father Louis Alexandre Henry and his brother Jean Marie Henry, the creators of Le Spectacle the first opera house and theater in New Orleans. There is most likely another entry for this succession that references Louise and Celestin's children and yet another entry most likely references the children of Jean Marie and their children. Jean Marie Henry's 1805 will states that his parents were of the bourgeoisie living in Montmartre Paris and they were all baptized at St. Eustache church.

Eugene & Emerante's daughter - Marie Emerante Laperouse. The 1850 Census shows Marie living with her mother's 1st cousin's widow listed as Mrs. Raphael Hollier and her two daughters. Marie is 11 years old. I am guessing that Eugene & Emerante may have passed away or perhaps Marie was helping the young widow with her children. Raphael's widow is Sydonise PRUDHOMME.

It's interesting too that near the top of same census page is Beaurepaire and Eugenie (Lavergne) Chachere's family. Marie's father Eugene Lapeyrouse was first cousin to Eugenie. Eugenie's mother Louise Henry Lavergne was the only sister of his mother Eleonore Antoinette Henry Lapeyrouse as first mentioned regarding Anne Bellamy Henry's succession. It is interesting that Louise' & Celestin's daughters all married Chachere brothers.
