    Ernie, age 71, born August 18th, 1935, a resident of Opelousas, died Friday, August 3rd, 2007 at 3:10PM at Lafayette General Hospital. He was a graduate of Opelousas High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in commercial art from Southwestern Louisiana Institute University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
    He worked as a petroleum draftsman in Lafayette for 15 years. He designed the first T.H. Harris Petroleum Drafting Technology Curriculum, which he taught until his retirement, on June 30th, 1998.P
    Ernie loved hunting and fishing, old cowboy movies, cooking, his computer and genealogy. His real love was music and he sang in St. Landry Catholic Church choir for over 50 years. He sang for weddings and funerals for over 43 years and belonged to Acadiana Chapter Barber Shop Chorus in Lafayette, the Cajun Comedy Barber Shop Quartet called Pride of the Marsh and Barber Shop Quartet called 4 the Moment. He sang with Congres du Mondial Acadien Choir and was also a member of the Opelousas Community Choir. He was a charter member of the Brigadier General Mouton Camp 778 Sons of Confederate Veterans.
    Ernie was also a member of the St. Landry Genealogical Society, was a member of St. Landry Parish Retired Teachers Association, and served on many committees and was very active at St. Landry Catholic Church and was an Assistant Scout Master for Troop 165 Boy Scouts of America.
    Ernie will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
    He is survived by his wife Lilly Ann Hollier McKinney of Opelousas, his sons Michael Ernest McKinney of Washington and David Lawrence McKinney and his wife Cathy Littell McKinney of Lafayette, daughter-in-law Angie Duplechain McKinney Blanchard and her husband Clyde, sister Merilynn McKinney Quirk, grandchildren Phillip Michael McKinney and his wife Brandi Darbonne McKinney, Matthew Lawrence McKinney, Patrick Steven McKinney, Carson Blanchard and Mary Ellen Blanchard, nieces Judy Quirk, Liz Puckett and her husband Page Puckett, Mary Quirk Steinberg and her husband Bill Steinberg, Charlotte Quirk Courvelle and her husband Lambert Courvelle, Christine Martin Ford, Brenda Hollier Boustany and her husband James Boustany and Cathy Quirk Bordelon.
    Ernie was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Ena Fontenot McKinney, a son Steven Douglas McKinney, a sister Bertha Sis McKinney Martin, a niece Marise Martin, brother-in-laws Atwood Quirk and L.A. Mickey Hollier, father-in-law and mother-in-law Lawrence A. Hollier Sr. and Lilly Guidroz Hollier.
    The family has requested that visitation will be observed on Sunday, August 5th at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home on the Old Sunset highway from 3:00pm to 9:00pm and will continue on Monday from 8:00am until time of service. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00pm on Sunday.

    Lawrence Hollier Services Held in Opelousas Today
    OPELOUSAS-Funeral services for Lawrence Hollier, 48, of Opelousas, principal of the Leonville High School for the past 16 years, were to be conducted this afternoon at 4 o’clock in the St. Landry Catholic Church.
    Hollier died yesterday at Foundation Hospital in New Orleans. He had been failing health for 18 months and had been seriously ill for the past several weeks.
    Burial was to be in the church’s adjacent cemetery.
    Hollier was born in Opelousas, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. “Hop” Hollier. He attended Louisiana Normal in Natchitoches, now Northwestern State College, and after receiving a teacher’s certificate began his profession at Port Barre as a classroom teacher. In 1927 he was made principal of the Pecanniere Elementary School and remained there nine years. He was appointed principal of the Leonville school in 1936 the same year he received his BA degree from Southwestern Louisiana Institute.
    Hollier was considered one of the outstanding principals in the state and he, his faculty, and students had been cited many times in the educational fields. He held membership in the Knights of Columbus, National, Louisiana, and St. Landry Education Associations.
    Surviving Hollier are his wife, the former Lilly Guidroz, a son, Lawrence Jr.; a daughter, Lilly Ann; one brother, C. B. Hollier, all of Opelousas, and one sister, Mrs. J. J. Whittenberg of New Orleans.

    MRS. ARTHUR L. HOLLIER DIES AFTER SHORT ILLNESS
    Well Known Lady Expires from An Attack of Pneumonia-Funeral Largely Attended
    Mrs. Arthur L. Hollier, nee Mary Evelyna Bailey, aged 48 years, 5 months and 2 days, died at the family residence on East Grolee Street, on Thursday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock, after an illness of several days; death was caused by pneumonia.
    Mrs. Hollier was well known throughout the surrounding country and enjoyed a very large number of friends. Her death, though expected for the last few days, came as a severe shock to her many friends and relatives.
    Funeral services took place from the home on Grolee Street to the Catholic Church; interment was made in the Catholic cemetery at 4:30 Friday evening. The Knights of Columbus, of which the deceased's husband is a member, attended the funeral in a body. A large number of friends and relatives attended the funeral. Mrs. Hollier is survived by her husband and three children.
    The Clarion extends its sympathies to the family in their hour of grief.

    OLDEST MAN IN PARISH.
    Scions Of Venerable Clement Hollier Celebrate His 94th Birthday. On Sunday, January 12th, there gathered at the residence of Mr. Clement Hollier, a few miles from Opelousas, the children and grandchildren - of that venerable old gentleman, perhaps the oldest man in the parish of St. Landry. The occasion was the celebration of the 94th anniversary of the birth - of Mr. Clement Hollier, to do honor to old age as well as to a life fruitfully spent, and garland the brow of a devoted father and grandfather. The feast and celebration was attended by the following children and grandchildren of the old gentleman: A. T. Hollier and family, A. L. Hollier and family, A. M. Hollier and family, T. J. Meyers and family, Chas. Hollier and family. There were also present several friends of the family, and the day was spent in joyous felicitations.

    St. Landry parish lost, last week, two of its venerable citizens-old landmarks. Mr. Clement Hollier, aged 95 years, 20 months [10 months] and seven days, died at his home, a few miles from Opelousas, on Friday, November 19th. He was one of the pioneers of this country. Notwithstanding that he had nearly reached the century mark, he was yet able to get about. He leaves a large circle of children and grandchildren.
