Notes: The Hinckley family came early to Thetford and were very influential in the development of the town. Unlike most of Thetford's early residents, they came from Lebanon, Connectcut, the next town to Hebron. Oramel Hinckley settled on Thetford Hill, and owned large tracts of land in town. Notes: Daniel Strong (son of Stephen Strong and Abigail Buell) b. Sept. 17, 1719, m. May 22, 1751, Esther Chappell b. July 21, 1734 (dau. of Caleb Chappell and Elizabeth Hutchinson). He was an extensive farmer in Lebanon, Ct., but in the Revolution sold off his stock and bought army supplies on credit, taking his pay in continental currency which in the end resulted in his pecuniary overthrow. Notes: Samuel Hinckley is the common ancestor of all Hinckleys in this country. In 1628 it appears by the colony records that Elder Nathaniel Tilden, of Tenterden, purchased lands in Scituate, Massachusetts. In the spring of 1635 Samuel Hinckley, Elder Nathaniel Tilden, John Lewis, and James Austin, of Tenterden, in the County of Kent, in England, and several other families from that County, making a company of 102, counting men, women, children and servants, resolved to emigrate to New England. Notes: Jedidiah Strong was a farmer at Northampton until 1709, when at the age of about 70 years moved with his family to Coventry, Connecticut. During the years 1677-1669 he was paid 18 shillings a year for blowing the trumpet on Sunday to summon people to church. He was also constable in 1683.
