4. | Francois Jean Trepagnier, II was born in Feb 1747 in Destrehan, St Charles, Louisiana, USA (son of François Trepagnier, I and Marie Jeanne Bar); died on 10 Jan 1811 in Destrehan, St Charles, Louisiana, USA. Notes: Constructing a cottage about 1770 and it was known as the "Trepagnier House". The home was built near the south side of the Bonnet Carre Spillway on East River Road and was latter demolished in 1954. Prior to its demise it was the oldest known method of wall construction used in colonial times in Louisiana - clay packed between Cyprus studs, the clay being mixed with oyster shells and moss as a binder. Jean Francois met his death 1811 at the hands of a band of rebellious slaves. After this tragic event his house was abandoned by the remainder of the family. Alexandre Bauré owed his uncle and father in-law a sum of $20,000. Notes: An erudite Canadian genealogist says that the primitive name of the Trépagnier family was de Trépagny. For the last century or more, he asserts, it has been written as Trépanier, but by referring to the older Canadian records, one discovers that this family name has seen many transformations. In Louisiana, Claude de Trépagny (or Trepagnier), the founder of the family in that colony, signed his name as Trépanier. His son, François, adopted the form of Trépagnié.
