2. | Stephen Strong was born on 24 Nov 1690 in Northampton, Hampshire, Massachusetts, USA (son of Jedediah Strong, II and Abiah Ingersoll); died on 2 Feb 1785 in Lebanon, New London, Connecticut, USA; was buried in Exeter Cemetery, Lebanon, New London, Connecticut, USA. Notes: Five of Stephen and Abigail's children: Lydia, Peter, Abel, Hannah, and Ruby, died within ten days of each other of "the black throat distemper" (diphtheria), as it was called. For an account of this scourage which began in 1734, and ravaged the country for several years, sweeping children in large numbers, and sometimes obliterating in a few days large families of them, see Trumbull's History of Connecticut, Vol. II, p. 137. Notes: Jedidiah Strong was a farmer at Northampton until 1709, when at the age of about 70 years moved with his family to Coventry, Connecticut. During the years 1677-1669 he was paid 18 shillings a year for blowing the trumpet on Sunday to summon people to church. He was also constable in 1683.
